Glitter Sale Recap

Thank you again to everyone who volunteered, waited in line, and shopped the Glitter Sale this past weekend.  Countless community members and Goodwill employees volunteered (that's our president and CEO Ken Colling in red in the first picture!), over 2,500 people shopped, and we raised a record high of $186,217!  Net proceeds from the sale support our free job training and education programs, so our success means even more people can be served throughout our community.

The Glitter Sale starts tomorrow!

The Glitter Sale is this weekend!  Be ready when our doors open tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. with these useful tips:
  • Pre-printed numbers are needed to view the jewelry - these are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.  Once numbers 1-300 have been called, there will be an OPEN CALL announcement for jewelry.
  • Racks will be restocked throughout the weekend, so don't worry if you're not the first through the door!
  • Outfits from the blog and the Glitter Gala fashion show will be on specially marked racks.
  • Pick up a blue mesh shopping bag when you arrive; shopping carts are not allowed.
  • Glitter Sale items are returnable within 7 days of purchase with original tag and receipt.
  • Wear a leotard or swimsuit to try on clothes; there are no dressing rooms.
  • Bring a friend who will give you honest feedback - shoppers will vastly outnumber the mirrors!
Remember, proceeds from the Glitter Sale support Goodwill's free job training and education programs in the community.  All the more reason to get that decadent necklace and elegant dress!

Designer Pieces and Ready-to-Wear Details

Thanks to all of our supporters, the Glitter Gala was a huge success!  Stay tuned for a re-cap of the night's festivities and fashion show - for now all we can think about is the Glitter Sale this weekend!

Our in-house fashion expert and Bellevue store manager Gary Foy created several amazing outfits using items from the Glitter Sale racks.  For him, details are the key to a good outfit.  "Heavy accessories are huge right now," he says.  "Details pop more than the actual clothes."

Veronica Dumitrescu, who works at our Bellevue store, graciously agreed to try on some of Gary's outfits, which mix designer pieces with ready-to-wear items.  "Everybody wants to have the look, but not everyone can afford the outfit," notes Gary.  "Mixing designer pieces in with your regular wardrobe is an easy way to get the look you want and keep the price low."

The outfit below is a perfect example of this, with Michael Kors shirt dress accented with a great faux fur bag, colorful scarf and sparkling beaded necklace.

The second outfit tops a flowing Diane von Furstenberg top with an inexpensive sequined shrug and multiple gold belts.  And check out those Tory Burch shoes!  The gold accent on the heel is the perfect detail to complete the look.

We had so much fun creating outfits, but the real fun begins bright and early Saturday morning!  Be sure to check back tomorrow for some great tips on shopping the Glitter Sale.

Runway-Inspired Designer Shoes

Our fourth annual Glitter Gala is tonight!  Here at the office we're getting all glammed up, while our amazing volunteer models are being styled at our partners Robert Leonard Salon and Day Spa and Salon Circa.  The highlight of the evening is of course a fashion show featuring items that will be for sale this coming weekend at the Glitter Sale! Our partner, the Art Institute of Seattle, worked with us to create an exciting, glamorous show, and we can't wait to see the final product!

All proceeds from the evening will go towards our Career Pathways program, which helps our students further their education through community college classes or training programs.

Be sure to follow us at GlitterSale_Gal or #glittergala for updates throughout the evening - you'll want to scope out the runway fashions before you get to the Sale!

Inspired by visions of our models walking the runway, we found these gorgeous designer shoes on our sale racks and just had to share. These blush-toned Christian Louboutins, gold-accented Marni shoes and colorful 7 For All Mankind heels are looking for a new closet to call home, and you won't find them for a better price.  So get ready to shop our Glitter Sale this Saturday and Sunday - we'll see you there!

Earrings that Sparkle

Some of our Glitter Sale items will be hitting the runway tomorrow night at our annual fundraiser, the Glitter Gala! For a behind-the-scenes look at the action and a preview of the featured pieces that will then be sold at the Glitter Sale, be sure to follow us on Twitter at GlitterSale_Gal or #glittergala.

Of course, you don't need an entire glamorous outfit to bring some glitter to your life - a little touch of sparkle can go a long way.  Details make the outfit, and these earrings would be the perfect pops of color and shine to accent anything you wear.

The Glitter Sale is less than a week away!

The Glitter Sale is this weekend, Nov. 12 and 13!  We're all getting pretty excited here at Goodwill as everything gets set up and more and more racks are filled with gorgeous clothes.

Our Vintage Fashion Collection Events Assistant, Carla Moar, went through the racks and pulled some of her favorite pieces that are for sale this year. "I love this cotton pink jacket," she says. "It's a vintage Canadian union label, and it's in excellent condition."  The vibrant color, exaggerated notch collar and plush material make it amazingly fun to wear - Carla couldn't resist putting it on!

This wool black dress is from a local dress shop that was located in the University District in the 60's.  Never worn, it's in impeccable condition, and the gathering at the front is chic and flattering.  Carla notes, "The high-quality wool makes this a great dress for the fall or winter.  It hits just below the knee, which is a very popular cut right now."

Another one of Carla's favorites is this red wool Ellen Kaye dress from the late 40's/early 50's.  "This is a totally fun fall or winter look, and the narrow glitter stripes really liven it up."  The dress is a rare, good-quality designer find with unique pleated shoulders and detailed waistline.

The Glitter Sale has something for everyone - stop by this weekend to find your favorite items!
